Alumni Profile – Amanda Hochstatter ‘11 Posted on October 29th, 2015 by

Amanda is currently a High School Physics Teacher with the New York City Department of Education. She holds an MAT in secondary physics education.

“Gustavus taught me the value of investing in and balancing various interests to become an individual full of experiences, talents, and passions.  These days, there is so much emphasis on specializing in one particular thing, but what I’ve found over time is the most interesting, insightful, and successful people are those with various interests and experiences.  Gustavus provided a platform for encouraging this type of growth.  I, personally, was able to major in Physics, minor in Religion, play on the Gustavus Women’s Soccer team, study abroad in Rome for a semester, travel to Nicaragua and the US desert SW for J-Term classes, and learn to play the guitar during my time at Gustavus.  This seemingly-strange combination of interests and experiences has molded me into a person with a very unique view of the world we live in, and the world I’d like my children to grow up in.”
