Alumni Profile – Greg Haugstad ‘85 Posted on October 29th, 2015 by

Greg is currently Research Manager Level 3 at the University of Minnesota where he is Principal Research Physicist and Director of the College of Science and Engineering Characterization Facility.  He earned a Ph.D. in Physics from the
University of Minnesota in1992.

“The most characteristic descriptor of my professional life is incessant technical broadening, from the standpoint of both materials (synthetic, bio, geo) and measurements (all types of physical response, i.e., mechanical, thermal, electrical, magnetic, and more). My experiences at Gustavus (in many courses, not just physics) spawned the requisite intellectual curiosity and restlessness — and my Gustavus professors made possible the early professional experiences (e.g., summer research) on top of technical competence — to spur a truly fulfilling career. The set of core values that steer both my professional and personal life were almost entirely a result of my time at Gustavus.”
